Cliniko connection guide

Connect Cliniko in a few clear steps.

MyHealthFollowup connects to Cliniko with a clinic-provided API key. Once connected, the app can read the appointment, patient, practitioner, and clinic fields needed to create automated email schedules without manual exports or external workflow tools.

The setup usually takes a few minutes. Keep Cliniko open in one tab and MyHealthFollowup open in another so you can create the key and paste it straight into the dashboard.

Step 1

Create or open your MyHealthFollowup account

Sign in to MyHealthFollowup and open the dashboard. If you are setting up a new clinic, create the clinic workspace first so the Cliniko key is connected to the right account.

Step 2

Create a Cliniko API key

In Cliniko, open My info under your name. If API keys are not enabled for your user yet, turn on the setting that allows you to create and use API keys, update the user, and complete the identity check.

Step 3

Name and copy the key

Open Manage API keys, add a new API key, and name it MyHealthFollowup so it is easy to recognise later. Copy the key straight away, because Cliniko only shows it once.

Step 4

Paste it into MyHealthFollowup

Return to MyHealthFollowup, open the setup dashboard, paste the Cliniko API key into the Cliniko connection field, and click Connect Cliniko.

Step 5

Review the synced clinic details

Once the key is verified, MyHealthFollowup loads the clinic details needed for email rules. You can then complete clinic fields, import or create templates, and start building appointment-based automations.

Cliniko also provides its own detailed API key guide if you want to follow their screenshots while creating the key: Generate a Cliniko API key.

What gets synced

Enough Cliniko data to automate emails safely.

The integration is designed around appointment email automation, not a full data migration. MyHealthFollowup uses Cliniko as the source of truth and syncs or checks the data needed to build, schedule, send, skip, and review clinic emails.

Clinic metadataBusiness details, appointment types, active practitioners, and the Cliniko account name used to confirm the connection.
Appointment dataAppointment IDs, timing, status, appointment type, practitioner, and patient references needed to match automation rules.
Patient send detailsThe patient name, email address, and relevant communication preference fields needed to prepare or skip scheduled email safely.
Delivery outcomesScheduled, sent, skipped, failed, cancelled, and retried message states are recorded in MyHealthFollowup so the clinic can monitor what happened.

Why connect Cliniko

Keep the clinic workflow in one source of truth.

No manual patient exports or duplicate email lists.
Cliniko remains the source of truth for appointments and patient details.
Rules can use appointment timing, appointment type, and practitioner filters.
Cancelled appointments and unusable email details are checked before sending.

Access and safety

You stay in control of the connection.

Use a Cliniko user account that has access to the clinic data your automations need.
Only share API keys with software vendors you trust.
If you ever need to revoke access, archive the MyHealthFollowup API key from Cliniko.
MyHealthFollowup does not store the Cliniko API key in browser storage.
